Troop Meeting - - Snow Camp Planning

The scouts discussed planning for a snow campout, the Klondike in January 2009. This satisfies part of requirement 9.2.5 of the Camping merit badge - - "Plan and carry out an overnight snow camping experience."

Troop Meeting - - Bigger and Better Activity

The Scouts participated in a combined activity planned by the Young Women in which the youth participated in a version of "Bigger and Better" in which they went to homes in the ward and obtained donations for a shelter.

Priesthood Meeting

The quorum went to Primary to bring Gunnar Legas to his first Deacon's Quorum meeting, President Rife taught about the way the quorum passes the sacrament, and Brother Walton taught a lesson on honesty.

Troop Meeting - - Planning, "Scout Jeopardy,' Ice Cream

The scouts planned possible combined activities to be proposed at an upcoming leadership planning meeting, we played a game that tested our knowledge of scouting, then Brother Williams treated everyone to ice cream at Macey's. The 11-year-old's joined us for all but the planning session.

Camp Out - - Huntsville

WHEN:

Friday, October 9 and Saturday, October 10

WHERE:

Home of Emily Miller's grandfather in Huntsville

WHO:

11-year-old scouts: Max Hoopes, Gunnar Legas (with his grandfather Dick Legas), Travis Rice

12-year-old scouts: Clint Flinders, Morgan Hunter (with his father Ian), Sam Jensen, Ledingham, Ian Pilgrim, Tyler Rife, Creed Rollins

Adult leaders: Taylor Cline, Spencer Fowers, Greg Jones, Brad Miller (with wife Emily)

WHAT:

Overnight campout to work on horsemanship merit badge

WHY (what did we accomplish?)

Ate: foil dinners; breakfast of eggs, sausage and bacon, hash browns; Gunnar Legas ate a worm.

Played on a zip line

Adults beat the scouts in capture the flag

Had a scoutmaster's minute in which we read horse stories from General Conference talks

Played night games

Saddled and rode horses

Completed an orienteering course

Performed service by improving a fire pit

Visiting the home of David O. McKay and rode on a huge rope swing next door

Troop Meeting

Tonight, in preparation of the upcoming outing to Huntsville, Brother Brad Miller taught the scouts about horses. Brother Taylor Cline then taught us about how to conduct meetings, and keeping order in meetings. We finished the night with a pack check for the Hunstville camp out.
