Ward Conference, Grandview 9th Ward - - Combined Aaronic Priesthod and Young Women's Meeting

The young men and young women, their ward leaders, and numerous stake leaders participated in this meeting. Tyler Rife gave the opening prayer. Here are some general notes from the meeting.

Presiding: President Scott Cherry, Second Counselor, Grandview Stake Presidency
Conducting: Bishop Steve Rife

Welcome: Bishop Rife welcomed everyone. In introducing the opening hymn, Bishop Rife told how he attended his wife's ward while they were dating, the hymn "Choose the Right" was sung, but he sang it "Choose the Rife," which his wife thought was tacky.

Opening Hymn: Choose the Right

Opening Prayer: Tyler Rife

Talk: Kynsie Rife, President, Laurel. We need to prepare to enter the temple. Following the teachings of "For the Strength of Youth" will help us.

Talk: Andy Isom, 1st Assistance, Priests Quorum. We need to respect friends, parents, adults, and ourselves. To respect means to hold in esteem and honor.

Talk: Sister Carmel Keleman, Stake Young Women's President. There are great expectations of the youth. Sister Keleman called no ward leaders, parents, and youth to identify some of those expectations. She then taught that it is by following the standards we have, such in "For the Strength of Youth," that youth can fulfill those expectations. If we follow the standards of the world, or simply make our standards a little better than those of the world, then we will not keep the Lord's standards, and our standards will decline, because the standards of the world are declining.

Talk: Rob Moore, Stake Young Men's President. Brother Moore showed a set of blue prints to the group. Blue prints, or plans, for our lives can be found in the scriptures. The Mutual Theme this is year is 1 Timothy 4:12, which reads "Be thou an example . . . " He spoke of living our standards. He told of how his wife, when she was a high school student, stayed true to her standards by choosing to leave a party attended by LDS youth when everyone else decided to watch an R-rated movie.

Talk: President Cherry. President Cherry specifically reviewed the topic of each talk that was given, and endorsed the counsel. He especially emphasized Sister Keleman's thought about following the Lord's standards, and the mutual theme. He then asked all to look up and mark a scripture that has been of great help to him: "Be thou humble; and the Lord thy God shall lead thee by the hand, and give thee answer to thy prayers. " (Doctrine & Covenants 112:10)

Closing Prayer: Rachel Chow

Scouts in attendance: Stephan Dartiguenave, Zac Jarman, Landon Ledingham, and Tyler Rife.

Adult leaders in attendance: Greg Jones, Mark Walton, and Dan Williams.
