Priesthood Meeting

The scouts joined the other young men of the Grandview Ninth Ward to practice "Come, Come Ye Saints," which the young men will sing in sacrament meeting on July 19. Afterward, Tanner Leishman taught the deacons quorum about passing the sacrament.

Troop Meeting - - Combined YM / YW Activity

The Scouts participated in a combined Young Men / Young Women activity. All went to the Oquirrh Mountain Temple open house.

Priesthood Meeting

Brother Mark Walton taught a lesson on service, and Clint Flinders was welcomed as a new member of the Deacons Quorum.

Troop Meeting

The scouts went to Provo High School for some physical fitness testing (all ran 1/4 mile), and Creed Rollins tested the long jump, push-ups, and sit-ups, then went to Macey's for ice cream.

Priesthood Meeting

Brother Dan Williams taught the lesson, leading a reading of many verses of Joseph Smith - History. Also, Clint Flinders will be a new Deacon next week, and he visited the quorum for orientation.

Campout

The scouts joined the Grandview Ninth Ward Father - Son campout for the troops campout this month. The campout was held at Conrad Ranch in South Fork.

Fathers who attended: Pierre Dartiguenave, Mark Jarman, Bishop Steve Rife.

Troop Meeting

The scouts went to the pool at the Willowbrook Hill condominiums to test their swimming skills for summer camp - 75 yards with a strong stroke, and 25 yards with a resting stroke. They then played sharks and minnows and other games.

Priesthood Meeting

Brother Dan Williams read and discussed "The Living Christ - - The Testimony of the Apostles." This fulfilled part of Requirement 2, Spiritual Development, for the Fulfilling Our Duty to God program - - "___ 2. Read “The Family: A Proclamation to the World” and “The Living Christ: The Testimony of the Apostles.” Review them with a parent or priesthood leader." Brother Williams also read through verse 4 of "Joseph Smith - History" in the Pearl of Great Price, helping the young men make progress toward the Quorum Activities requirement of the Fulfilling Our Duty to God program - - "___ 1. Read the Prophet Joseph Smith’s testimony in Joseph Smith—History 1:1–20, and discuss it with a priesthood leader."

YM / YM Combined Activity - - Baptisms for the Dead

The scouts joined the rest of the youth at 5 pm at the chapel, and from there all went to the Provo Temple to perform baptisms for the dead. Many youth performed ordinances for their ancestors and other ward members, including Bishop Rife, prepared names for ordinances as well. Afterward Brother and Sister Williams brought treats that all enjoyed in the lower parking lot of the temple.

Troop Meeting - - Orienteering Course

Assistant Scoutmaster Taylor Cline, using a course he prepared in advance, supported the scouts in their use of a compass and written directions to follow an orientation course. Those participating satisfied a rank advancement requirement for first class.
