Troop Meeting - - Carl Bloch Exhibit

We went to the BYU Museum of Art to see the Carl Bloch Exhibit. Through Taylor and Christina Cline, we were able to arrange to have Sister Cline's uncle, Michael Lyon, serve as our tour guide. He did an excellent job.

Troop Meeting - - Planning and Disaster Day

The Scouts planned for Summer Camp and the May campout, and had a "disaster day" to practice first aid. Brother Fowers, Jones, and Tolley each set up an emergency situation, the Scouts divided into three teams, and team rotated to each emergency situation and discussed what first aid treatment should be given.

The Scouts met with the Priests Quorum where Brother Taylor Cline taught a lesson on fasting, and Bishop Steve Rife presided.

Troop Meeting - - Visit to Hospital

Continuing the troop's work on the First Aid merit badge, Brother Mike Cosgrave took the troop on a tour of the ER at UVRMC, the clinic where he does his residency in family medicine, and treated the scouts to shakes in the hospital cafeteria.

Tonight at 6 pm parents, scouts, and leaders met in the Grandview Ninth Ward Relief Society Room where Senior Patrol Leader Sam Jensen and Scoutmaster Greg Jones presented information about Troop 797's plans for 2011.

Scouting for Food

On Friday the Cub Scouts distributed plastic donation bags to each home in the Grandview Ninth Ward, and at 8:45 Saturday morning the Scouts met at the chapel, then picked up the donations, dropping them off at the Food and Shelter Coalition Building on Freedom Blvd. The Scouts finished up the project by about 9:45 am.

The Scouts joined with the Venture Scouts at BYU. Brother Taylor Cline welcomed the Scouts to his lab and helped them work on experiments for the Environmental Science merit badge.

Troop Meeting - - Combined Activity

Today the Scouts joined the Young Men and Women of the Grandview Ninth Ward at the Provo Mall for a games of Where's Waldo. Unlike in past years, this year the youth disguised themselves, and adult volunteers from the ward searched for them. Afterward all enjoyed doughnuts and milk.

Troop Meeting - - Engineering and Electronics

The troop joined other young men of the Grandview Ninth Ward at the Clyde Building on BYU's campus. In the lab where Spencer Fowers studies and works, the Scouts disassembled devices and explained how they work. This relates to requirement 1 of the Engineering merit badge: "Select a manufactured item in your home (such as a toy or an appliance) and, under adult supervision and with the approval of your counselor, investigate how and why it works as it does. Find out what sort of engineering activities were needed to create it. Discuss with your counselor what you learned and how you got the information."

Court of Honor

Tonight Troop 797 held a Court of Honor at 7 pm. Brother Steve Ledingham, chair of the Troop Scout Committee, organized and conducted this event. Scouts in all levels of the program received awards. This was a well-attended event in which many awards were received. Morgan Hunter presented slides from activities the troop has done since the stake court of honor in August.
